Philip Morris International Inc. (PMI) has allocated about AMD 7.8 million to Eurasia Partnership Foundation for the implementation of Entrepreneurship for Social Changes charity program, the company’s press office reported on Tuesday.
The money will be spent on professional trainings for 132 people from low-income families. These trainings will help people to improve their families’ living standards.
Philip Morris Armenia and Eurasia Partnership Foundation will periodically monitor the implementation of the program.
Philip Morris International opened its resident office in Armenia in 1995 and its branch, Philip Morris Armenia, in December 2010.
The company has donated 121 million drams in Armenia since 1997 for 2,137 disabled people, 700 World War II veterans and 198 inmates of children’s homes. Armenian Philharmonic Orchestra and Yerevan Municipality had been among beneficiaries as well. Yerevan authorities spent these donations on organization of the World Junior Chess Championship.
In 1988, before the presence of the Philip Morris International in Armenia, the company sent 70 tons of foods and necessary appliances worth $250,000 immediately after devastating earthquake in Spitak. ($1- AMD 403.90). M.V.
